This is my portrait of the late
U.S. Senator from Rhode Island,
John Chafee. The senator's wife
and the senator's cousin,
Mr. Duncan Doolittle, approached
me on behalf of a foundation
established to erect a portrait
monument to the senator. They
felt strongly that the foreward-
looking senator's optimism,
dynamic vigor, and strongly
independent nature needed to
be clearly represented. The result
is my "Striding Chafee". The portrait sculpture is located in Colt State Park in the town of Bristol, Rhode
Island. The portrait figure is mounted atop a granite plinth and positioned on a prominent point overlooking
Narragansett Bay.
